Furniture Arranging and Layout

Some people go just one month before they have grown tired of their decorative choices, while more conservative homeowners might take years. Eventually, though, we all need to refresh the environment in our homes. So, unless you are ready to chuck it all and start fresh, sometimes all it takes is a little imagination and a new room layout for your existing furniture.

Try moving your couch out from the wall and angling them in the room. A couch that diagonals across a corner makes way for a cool floor lamp and a great reading place for those who like to lounge.

You can section a room by placing the couch in such a way to create a barrier in the middle of the room that distinguishes two separate spaces for one room. This is handy for rooms of all sizes. Studio apartments can maximize the best usage of their space by creating separate bedroom and living rooms without the necessity for a wall. Furniture used to divide large rooms can offer areas for specialty needs like a child's play area or a teen's computer workstation.

Take advantage of the natural light sources of the room. Try arranging two chairs close together near a window to create a cozy place for tea and conversation. Adjust furniture so you are looking toward the best part of the house or best view of the outdoors. You may be surprised to learn that a family of Cardinals visits your yard every morning for breakfast.

Consider switching a few of your furniture pieces in one room with pieces in another room. The change in location and lighting might cause you to feel like it is brand new. Don't be afraid to try placing a core piece like the loveseat in the master bedroom. The great thing about moving furniture around is that nothing has to be permanent! You might even be surprised at how luxurious it looks.

If you feel comfortable or locked down to a particular furniture arrangement, you might simply try rearranging your decorative accents. Instead of displaying the family photos in varying frames across the fireplace mantle, reframe and matte them with a uniform look then hang them together in a pattern on an empty wall.

If you are feeling less inspired by your surroundings than you once did and have the urge to buy something new, you might put a few of those knick-knacks in storage and invest in some new decorative accents. A trendy new lampshade or interesting piece of hand-blown glass will surely shake things up a bit. Your cravings for a creative environment will be satisfied and your home will resemble a furniture showroom!
